Facebook’s new newsfeed, coming soon

Facebook’s pushing out another incremental update, but this time It looks like It’s going to be recieved with open arms. Looks good to me anyway!

Facebook says photos make up 50% of all of news feed stories. From what I can tell so far, It seems like the redesign will do a better job of displaying that. You can definitely see the increased emphasis on visuals in the video, and heavier focus on mobile. If you’re really interested in the thinking behind the UX, I recommend reading the Facebook’s official blog post on the subject. For a more strategic look into how to make the most of the redesign, check out HubSpot’s free ebook.

Multiple feeds will allow you to sort between a range of different categories: Close friends, friends in general, music, photos, games and people and brands you “follow” (as opposed to friend). A simple chronological news feed timeline is an option too.

Opposite from Facebook, I’ve been seeing Pheed (ANOTHER new social network) get a lot of great press lately, so I decided to give it a shot. I left uninspired, and as a designer call “knock-off”. I do enjoy the content filter on it, but that’s a feature that it looks like Facebook is already integrating on It’s upcoming roll-out. I joined the invite list, guess we’ll just have to see for ourselves once It’s rolls out!
