In addition to showcasing demo experiences, Mozilla has debuted the new brand platform, which Wolff Olins has been working on with them since last summer. I think they branded the product well. Very cool and current, yet still human.
The product isn’t nearly as cool as the Mozilla Seabird concept they presented a few years back, but It’s a start. On first impression of the OS UX after playing with the device simulator I was left feeling like the OS was just an android skin, but there were one or 2 novel ideas in the build. For example, swiping left from the homescreen takes you to the Firefox Marketplace (see screenshot to the right). On big detail I am very excited about though is that most apps on the platform will be built using HTML5, which means this will be a very web developer friendly platform.
Firefox OS is a new mobile operating system built entirely using open web standards. In Firefox OS, HTML5 apps can do “phone things” – they can make the phone vibrate, make a phone call or send a text message.
Based on the idea that Firefox OS is a catalyst for individual and collective progress, the new identity reinforces that the brand is going to new places and spaces by literally unleashing the Fox, symbolizing the freedom that more people will have to take advantage of the full power of the web.
