I’ve been following the Google Glass experiment for a while now, and am surprised how quickly Google is turning it into a viable, possibly culture changing product. Voice and flexible context driven interfaces are the future, and It seems designers are going to have to transition to this method of thinking sooner than we thought.
Unlike those epic, sci-fi R&D projects at Google, Glass is getting real much sooner than anyone expected.

Now I’m curious how Apple and Microsoft will retaliate. Apple’s iWatch is going to need to kick some serious ass for the company still be considered a present innovator (the Pebble seems to be leading the way nicely), and Microsoft is going to need more than the Surface tablet- although It’s been doing a great job leading the way with gesture interfaces. Either way I’m excited, because well designed practical interfaces are being created all around us!
Futuristic but not out of time — like an artifact from the 1960’s, someone trying to imagine what 2013 would be like. This is Apple-level design. No, in some ways it’s beyond what Apple has been doing recently….If Google keeps this up, soon we’ll be saying things like “this is Google-level design.”
